Les Entreprises F.B.D.L., specializing in the rental of operated heavy machinery in Quebec, looked to the team at the Toromont Rebuild Center in Candiac for the complete rebuild of their D6 dozer.
Founded 20 years ago, the company excels in civil engineering projects, infrastructure, roadworks, and various other projects. Owner Dany Lafleur, himself an experienced operator with over 30,000 hours of heavy machinery operation, owns a fleet of about 35 Caterpillar machines, ranging from small excavators to 55-ton excavators, articulated trucks, tractors, and wheel loaders.

"What I like about Caterpillar equipment are the products, the resale value, the tremendous support from the manufacturer and Toromont, and the comprehensive after-sales service. They are a great business partner," says Dany.
He recalls his first 8-ton excavator, purchased in Pointe-Claire. When the Candiac branch opened, he was transferred to the South Shore. His second excavator was also a Caterpillar. "I am the only one in my family doing this. I started with the financial support of Caterpillar, which has always been behind me," he adds.
A Complete Rebuild of the D6R 2nd Generation
After several discussions with his parts and service representative at Toromont, Dany decided that a rebuild made the most sense for his business. With the engine, transmission, and everything else that needed work on the D6R, a complete rebuild was necessary – and looked to be less expensive than getting a new machine.
Once costs and details of service were ironed out, the team at the Candiac branch got to work. The rebuild process was smooth and took just about 3 months from start to finish.
Dany was thrilled: "The complete rebuild, including the painting, engine, and transmission, restored the machine to a like-new condition."

For each machine that arrives at the centre, we push it to the maximum of what the machine allows.
"The rebuild process involves a tailored approach with the client to understand and ensure their needs. A Cat machine is designed to be rebuilt. It is therefore essential to understand if the client wants to extend the life of their machine for a second or even a third useful life, to develop a plan, and to ensure that the machine is ready for it and how it will be done," says Jean-Philip Deschamps, manager of the Toromont Cat branch in Candiac.
