Toromont Cat is proud to announce its partnership with Inland Iron & Metal, a family-owned material handling business that’s been in operation for over 60 years. We’re pleased to have delivered one of our durable, capable Cat® MH3260 Material Handlers to their business – the first ever sold in the territory!
Read on to find out what makes Inland Iron & Metal special, and why they picked the MH3260 as their go-to material handler.
Inland Iron and Metal: Excellence since 1962
Inland Iron & Metal knows the scrap business. A Canadian metal recycling business owned and operated by the Scott family since 1962, Inland was on the hunt for a suitable and durable track material handler that could stand up to tough applications.
A big part of Inland’s mission is to help consumers and businesses recycle better, so the challenge was to find such a machine while staying consistent with their business objectives to achieve the lowest life cycle cost and reduce their carbon footprint.
We had just the machine for them.
Enter the Cat MH3260
Specifically designed for material handling applications, the MH3260 is the newly revamped tracked version of the MH3022-3044 wheeled material handling excavators used in the forestry industry.
It has the rugged power and productivity you’ve come to expect from Caterpillar products: it’s equipped with a new engine, a reversing fan cooling system, and a wide mechanical variable undercarriage that ensures optimal performance.
Inland was impressed with both its capability and durability in harsh 24-hour environments, something they saw first hand when they visited a scrap recycling business who owns 34 individual MH3260s south of the border – a visit facilitated by Caterpillar. They were also excited by its lower operating costs (up to 20% lower cost than previous models), and lower fuel consumption resulting in decreased CO2 emissions (up to 34% less CO2 Emissions than the previous 345C MH) over comparable machines in the market.
Service and Support
With an eye on finding a durable piece of equipment that could handle the demands of material handling, Inland Iron and Metal made serviceability and support a priority.
They did their homework by reaching out to equipment technicians they knew in the Georgina area who were impressed with Caterpillar equipment’s durability and Toromont’s Cat’s ability to deliver and fully support it.
Going Green
Unlike other materials, metal is a valuable raw mineral that can be recycled again and again without degrading its properties. Inland believes that metal recycling helps the environment by participating in a circular economy, while also offering industries a way to reduce costs and mitigate waste.
It’s a mission we share with Inland - we have made sustainability a priority by reducing our operational footprint, offering sustainable products and services, focusing on the circular economy, while proving that being sustainable can actually increase profits.
