Those efforts led to the release of a new model in 2020: the Cat® 420 XE Backhoe Loader.

The 420 XE is our performance plus backhoe, improving on its 420 predecessor by replacing pilot controls with seat-mounted controls.
That means more legroom, more storage, and better visibility through the front and back windows — an ergonomic operator station that can be adjusted to maximize operator comfort.
Plus, a tilting and telescoping steering wheel, a push button Parking Brake, powershift transmission for changing gears effortlessly, optional autoshift, dual mode from the seat-mounted controls, and a touchscreen monitor.

- Load-sensing hydraulics that ensure optimal hydraulic features at any engine speed, and a variable flow pump that adjusts power as needed.
